Josep Bordonau – Associate Professor

Biography

Josep Bordonau received the M.Sc. and the Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering with honors from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC-BarcelonaTech), Barcelona, Spain, in 1984 and 1990, respectively.
Lecturer and Assistant Professor in the Electronics Engineering Department, UPC-BarcelonaTech since 1984, where he has been an Associate Professor since 1991.

Active in more than 30 research projects with international companies and institutions.

He has authored 26 international journal papers and more than 130 conference papers, both in Power Electronics, with an h-index of 15. Two of his papers are ranked among the top-20 of UPC-BarcelonaTech (report from 1999-2009).

Reviewer and chairman in different international conferences in Power Electronics and Industrial Electronics.

Visiting professor at Virginia Tech (Blacksburg, VA, USA) in 1996, 2000 and 2001, NTNU (Trondheim, Norway) in 2005 and University of Nottingham (Nottingham, UK) in 2005.

Member of the IEEE PELS Technical Committee of Power Electronics in Distributed Generation and Renewable Energy Systems.

He has served as vice dean in the School of Industrial Engineering and as vice director of the Electronics Engineering department. He is also the Director of the Power Electronics Research Center (GREP) of UPC-BarcelonaTech. He is currently the Education Director of the Iberia co-location center in KIC InnoEnergy and the Academic Director of the UPC-BarcelonaTech KIC Development Unit.

His fields of interest are in Power Electronics: multilevel conversion and ac power conversion applied to renewable energy systems, energy management systems, distributed generation systems for a new smart grid and electric/hybrid vehicles.

Sergio Busquets – Associate Professor

Biography

Sergio Busquets-Monge was born in Barcelona, Spain. He received the M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the UPC-BarcelonaTech, Barcelona, in 1999, the M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, U.S.A., in 2001, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Catalonia in 2006.

From 2001 to 2002, he was with Crown Audio, Inc., Elkhart, Indiana, U.S.A. He is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Electronic Engineering, UPC-BarcelonaTech.

He has authored 30 international journal papers and 63 conference papers in the field of Power Electronics, with an h-index of 21. His research interests include multilevel conversion and converter integration.

He received the consolation prize in the Agustín de Betancourt y Molina Award in 2014 for the development of new topologies, modulations, and control schemes for multilevel power converters.

He is a Senior Member of the IEEE.

Salvador Alepuz – Associate Professor

Biography

Salvador Alepuz received the M.Sc. and Ph.D degrees, with honors, in electrical and electronic engineering from the UPC-BarcelonaTech, in 1993 and 2004, respectively.

Since 1994, he has been Associate Professor at the Mataró School of Technology, Tecnocampus Mataró-Maresme, Mataró, Barcelona, Spain.

Involved in several research projects.

Coauthor of 14 IEEE Journal papers and more than 40 international conference papers.

From 2006 to 2007 (12 months), he was with the Departamento de Electrónica, Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Chile, developing a postdoctoral research. In 2009, he was a visiting researcher (3 months) at the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada. In 2011, he was a visiting professor (1 month) again at Departamento de Electrónica, Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, Chile.

IEEE Senior Member.

Reviewer and chairman in several IEEE journals and conferences.

He has served as Academic Secretary at the Mataró School of Technology (2010-2013).

His fields of interest are multilevel conversion and ac power conversion applied to renewable energy systems.

Alfonso Conesa – Associate Professor

Biography

Alfonso Conesa received the M.Sc. and Ph.D degrees, with honors, in electrical and electronic engineering from the UPC-BarcelonaTech, Barcelona, Spain, in 1998 and 2006, respectively.

Since 1992, he has been Associate Professor at EUETIB, university school affiliated to UPC-BarcelonaTech, and actually fully integrated in UPC-BarcelonaTech as EEBE School.

Involved in several research projects and coauthor of 9 IEEE Journal papers and more than 50 international conference papers.

Reviewer in several IEEE journals and conferences.

His fields of interest are resonant and multilevel converters and ac power conversion applied to renewable energy systems.

Joan Nicolás – Associate Professor

Biography

Joan Nicolas-Apruzzese was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela. He received the M.Sc. (2008) and Ph.D. (2013) in electrical engineering from UPC-BarcelonaTech.

Since 2008, he has been a researcher in GREP. His main research interests include power multilevel converters applied to electric vehicles and photovoltaic- and wind-energy systems.

He has been involved in several research projects and authored 10 Journal papers and 10 international conference papers. Reviewer in several IEEE journals and conferences.

Since 2015 he is a part-time professor in the Facultat de Nàutica de Barcelona, UPC-BarcelonaTech.

Àlber Filbà – Associate Professor

Biography

Àlber Filbà Martínez was born in Mataró, Spain. He received the M.Sc. (2011) and Ph.D. (2017) degrees in electrical and electronic engineering from UPC-BarcelonaTech.

Since 2011, he has been a researcher in GREP, working in the design of power converters in collaboration with local companies. In 2018 he started working as a part-time professor at Tecnocampus Mataró-Maresme, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Mataró, Barcelona.

He has authored 3 IEEE Journal papers and 4 international conference papers, and has been a reviewer in several IEEE journals and conferences.

His research interests are multilevel power converters in dc-dc, ac-dc, and dc-ac conversion, on applications such as battery interfacing, electric vehicles, and renewable energy systems.
